Once a new field has been created, there are a few options for the data inserted in that field. What follows is each option and a short description of that option.
Text – useful for storing text or numbers that won’t be calculated or used in any expressions at a later point. This is limited to fifty characters.
Memo – for storing descriptions longer than fifty characters
Number – for storing numbers to be used in calculations or sorting.
Date/Time – used for storing dates and times.
Currency – for storing monetary figures
AutoNumber – automatically enters a number different from the number before it
Yes/No – inserts a check box into the data field to allow a true/false, yes/no, or on/off option
OLE Object – embeds an OLE link to another object, such as an Excel worksheet or a Word document
Hyperlink – stores hyperlinks to locations on the Internet
Attachment – for storing images, spreadsheets, documents, charts, and other files
Lookup Wizard – for creating a drop-down list with choices that can be chosen later
